Do you have fond memories of your childhood?
I remember the scent of my mother’s lipstick and make-up, her pastel shoes that were too big for my feet and playing in the living room and making silly noises. I also recall eagerly waiting for the summer holidays. Summer meant playing and having fun with my friends all day long. Also, the feeling of warmth and security while watching from the window the rain falling outside. The aroma of baked cookies inside the house. The sight of white flour everywhere in the kitchen while my sister and I helped our mother cook are also vivid memories.
I’m sure many of you have similar precious memories from your own childhood and most of them are related to your families. Now, just think for a moment not having that kind of memories? Imagine that you didn’t have the chance to experience all that. What a strange feeling it is!
This is the reason why SOS Children’s Villages is committed to offering more than a house to those children who, at a certain moment in their lives, destiny decided to question these memories. That’s why we believe that truly connecting with a child has the power to change the world.
Ten-year-old Redi* is one of the children who have found a loving home in the SOS Children’s Village Tirana. Whenever he’s asked about his experiences with his SOS family, he remembers many beautiful moments.
Redi* was welcomed into the SOS Children’s Village at the age of four. Since then, he has formed a strong bond with his SOS parents and siblings. Redi attends school and has a large group of friends. Whenever he struggles with any subjects, he receives after-school support to help him overcome his difficulties. Football is his favourite sport, and he feels proud to be a part of the football team for boys of his age. Redi loves the summer season the most, as he gets to spend more time with his friends and family, discovering new places to explore.
